Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), June 11: While the southwest monsoon is expected to advance into more areas of Telangana and Chhattisgarh within the next 48 hours, Odisha will continue to grapple with a heatwave until June 15.
The weather agency has issued an orange warning for heatwave conditions and warm nights in several districts. Balangir, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Nuapada are under the orange warning on June 11, followed by Boudh, Balangir, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Nuapada on June 12, and Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Sundargarh, Boudh, and Sambalpur on June 13-14.
Additionally, there’s a possibility of heatwave conditions in Boudh, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Sonepur, and Bargarh on June 11. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty windspeeds of 30-40 kmph may occur in various districts on June 11 and 12.
The forecast suggests that on June 15, heatwave conditions may persist in some areas, along with the likelihood of thunderstorms in select districts.
The Meteorological Department anticipates a gradual increase in daytime temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius across many parts of the state over the next five days, with minimal fluctuations thereafter.
