Odisha braces for heavy rain as low-pressure area intensifies into depression

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), Sept 6: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Friday that the low-pressure area over the central and adjoining northern Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression by September 9. This system is projected to move across the North Odisha coast over the following 3-4 days.
As of 8:30 AM, the low-pressure area, which initially formed over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, has shifted to the central and northern Bay of Bengal. It is anticipated to drift slowly northwards and strengthen into a depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent regions, including Gangetic West Bengal, northern Odisha, and the Bangladesh coast around September 9. Subsequently, the depression is likely to track west-northwestward across Gangetic West Bengal, northern Odisha, Jharkhand, and northern Chhattisgarh over the next 3-4 days.
The IMD has forecasted isolated heavy rainfall in Odisha from September 6-9, with very heavy rainfall expected in some districts on September 7-8.
