Odisha–Bengal Border Rescue Saves Eight Missing Fishermen
Bhubaneswar, August 27, 2026: Eight fishermen from Andhra Pradesh, missing at sea for 28 days, were rescued near the Digha mouth on the Odisha–West Bengal border.
Their trawler, which had ventured out nearly a month ago, suffered an engine failure mid‑sea and drifted uncontrollably for weeks.
Another fishing trawler spotted them about 100 km offshore and brought them to safety.
The rescued fishermen used wireless communication to alert authorities at Digha mouth.
Local administration and rescue teams quickly mobilised, ensuring the safe return of both the men and their boat.
All eight fishermen are reported safe, ending a harrowing ordeal that highlights both the risks of deep‑sea fishing and the resilience of coastal rescue networks.
