Odisha Assembly Adjourned Amid Paddy Procurement Protest

Bhubaneswar: The second day of the Odisha Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session was marred by uproar as Opposition members staged a dramatic protest over alleged irregularities in paddy procurement.

Carrying bundles of paddy into the House, legislators demanded immediate government intervention to address farmers’ grievances.

Speaker Surama Padhy repeatedly appealed for order but was unable to restore calm.

With sloganeering continuing, the House was adjourned till 11:30 AM, halting scheduled discussions on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s Budget address.

Senior BJD leader Romanch Ranjan Biswal drew attention by entering the Assembly with a bundle of paddy on his head, while other members placed paddy on the reporters’ table to symbolise the plight of farmers.

The protest highlights the growing political flashpoint around procurement delays and payment issues, with Opposition parties pressing for accountability and timely support to cultivators.
