Ganjam Road Tragedy: Supreme Court Seeks Accountability from Odisha Government

The Supreme Court’s Road Safety Committee has directed the Odisha government to submit a comprehensive report on the Ganjam road tragedy by March 5, 2026.

The accident, which occurred on January 31, 2026, near Haladiapadar in Brahmapur, claimed five lives when a truck collided on the national highway.

The apex court has asked the state to detail the causes of the accident, corrective measures taken, and long‑term strategies for road safety.

The committee emphasised the need for stronger infrastructure, stricter enforcement of traffic rules, and improved monitoring systems to prevent similar tragedies.

This directive has drawn national attention, positioning the upcoming report as a benchmark for road safety reforms in Odisha.

The court’s intervention underscores the urgency of accountability and transparency in addressing recurring road accidents across the state.
