Odisha Approves Rs 2.04 Lakh Crore Projects in Nine Months

Odisha has taken a significant leap in industrial development, approving 85 projects valued at nearly Rs 2.04 lakh crore in the past nine months.

Industries Minister Samapad Chandra Swain presented the figures in the Assembly, underscoring the state’s rapid progress since the “Make in Odisha” conclave held in January 2025, which attracted 593 investment proposals worth Rs 16.73 lakh crore.

Between April and November 2024, the government cleared 324 large and medium projects, drawing investments of Rs 7.06 lakh crore and creating 4.57 lakh employment opportunities.

The textile sector received a major boost with 50 weaving industry projects and plans to establish modern textile parks across six districts.

The Odisha Textiles Conclave 2025 secured MoUs worth Rs 7,808 crore, targeting 49,000 jobs.

A landmark project is set to unfold in Jagatsinghpur district, where ArcelorMittal–Nippon Steel will establish a plant at Mahakalapada.

Infrastructure development, including roads and power supply, has already begun, though forest and environment clearance is awaited.

Highlighting entrepreneurship, the minister noted that more than 2,000 startups have emerged in Odisha over the past four years.

However, legislators raised concerns about land encroachment in Khordha’s Bhagabanpur industrial area, pointing to challenges that need resolution as the state balances growth with governance.
