
Odisha Allocates Rs 7.14 Crore to 1,085 Durga Puja Pandals in Cultural Preservation Push
In a landmark initiative to uphold Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, the state government has sanctioned Rs 7.14 crore in financial aid for 1,085 Durga Puja pandals.
This first-of-its-kind move, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, aims to support traditional festivities amid rising costs and ensure vibrant celebrations across the state.
The Department of Odia Language, Literature & Culture announced that pandals were categorised based on historical significance and age:
- Category A – Heritage Pandals: 215 pandals will receive Rs 1.01 lakh each, totalling Rs 2.17 crore.
- Category B – Over 75 Years Old: 197 pandals will get Rs 75,000 each, amounting to Rs 1.48 crore.
- Category C – Over 50 Years Old: 673 pandals will be granted Rs 50,000 each, totalling Rs 3.37 crore.
This structured aid not only honours Odisha’s artistic legacy but also empowers community organisers to sustain grandeur and tradition during the nine-day Durga Puja festivities.
