Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 11: Additional District Magistrate Birendra Kumar Das of Odisha’s Gajapati district tragically passed away after collapsing on stage during a cultural programme in Paralakhemundi.
Sources reported that Das was swiftly taken to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Paralakhemundi and later transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur as his condition deteriorated. Regrettably, doctors at Berhampur pronounced him deceased. The exact cause of his sudden death remains under investigation, with initial reports suggesting a possible heart attack.
The incident occurred during a cultural event hosted by the district administration at Parlakhemundi’s Brundaban Palace on Wednesday night. Das, actively participating in the function, suddenly felt unwell and collapsed onstage.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow over Das’s untimely demise, lauding him as a dedicated officer known for his exemplary administrative skills and tireless service to the public. The Chief Minister extended heartfelt condolences to Das’s grieving family.
