Odisha Accelerates Healthcare Reform with Two New Medical Colleges and 98 Faculty Appointments
Odisha’s healthcare infrastructure is undergoing a transformative leap with the inauguration of two new government medical colleges and the strategic appointment of 98 faculty members across the state.
The newly operational Government Medical College & Hospital in Phulbani (Kandhamal) and Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Medical College & Hospital in Talcher (Angul) raise the total number of government medical colleges in the state to 14.
This expansion follows the 2024 launch of Maharaja Jajati Keshari Medical College in Jajpur, signalling the state’s commitment to strengthening medical education and clinical services.
The latest appointments include 91 Assistant Professors across 23 broad specialities and 7 in 6 super-speciality disciplines.
Key institutions such as SCB Medical College (Cuttack), MKCG Medical College (Berhampur), and AHPGIC (Cuttack) have been fortified with specialists in oncology, surgical disciplines, and other critical fields.
Promotions of 38 Professors and 27 Associate Professors further bolster the academic and clinical workforce.
Postgraduate institutes like PGIMER and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar also received new appointments, reinforcing Odisha’s push toward universal healthcare.
These developments aim to meet the rising demand for medical professionals and ensure quality care across urban and rural regions.
