Odisha Accelerates Disaster Resilience Efforts with World Bank Support

Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: In a decisive push towards strengthening disaster resilience and sustainable growth, Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg chaired a high-level meeting with the World Bank Mission team to review the progress of the Odisha State Capability and Resilient Growth Programme (OSCRGP).

Launched in 2023–24 and funded until April 2028, OSCRGP is a joint initiative of the Government of Odisha, the Government of India, and the World Bank.

The programme aims to enhance institutional capacity, ensure equitable delivery of government schemes through integrated digital platforms, and mitigate economic losses from natural disasters via advanced early warning systems.

During the meeting, officials from the Finance Department, OCAC, Planning and Convergence Department, Economics and Statistics Directorate, and OSDMA presented updates on annual progress and expenditure.

Ms. Garg emphasised the need to accelerate implementation to improve fund utilisation and directed the early convening of the State Data Management Committee.

The World Bank team recommended strengthening information dissemination for multi-hazard events such as lightning strikes and cold waves, urging enhancements to OSDMA’s messaging systems for timely alerts.

This collaborative effort underscores Odisha’s commitment to climate resilience, adaptive social protection, and data-driven governance, positioning the state as a leader in inclusive and sustainable development.
