Odia Couple Missing in Nepal Flood, Govt Steps In
Bhubaneswar: An Odia couple from Khordha district, Sandeep Mohapatra and Siddharthi Kumari Sahu, has gone missing in Nepal following a devastating flash flood in the Bhote Koshi River.
The couple, who had been living in Australia since 2018, travelled to Nepal on August 22, 2026, and have remained untraceable since the disaster struck.
Their mobile phones have been switched off, raising fears about their safety.
The Odisha Government has collected details from Sandeep’s sister and shared them with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), which is coordinating with Nepalese authorities to trace the couple.
According to Nepal Police, 162 bodies have been recovered so far, with hundreds still missing, including foreign nationals.
Meanwhile, other Odias in Nepal have been confirmed safe. Rakesh Kumar Panda from Puri and two companions crossed the Raxaul border and are returning to India.
A six-member football team from Odisha, led by coach Halim, is safe in Pokhara.
The flash flood has caused widespread destruction, leaving families anxious and authorities racing against time to locate the missing.
