Nuapada Migrant Worker Electrocuted, Set on Fire; Police Launch Probe

Nuapada: A shocking incident has come to light in Odisha’s Nuapada district, where a migrant worker was allegedly abducted, electrocuted, and set on fire.

The victim, identified as Bidyadhar Majhi from Khariar, survived the brutal attack and has accused a local labour contractor and a brick kiln owner of exploitation and attempted murder.

District Labour Officer Jasmin Sahu, Khariar SDPO Upendra Pradhan, Khariar IIC Dilip Kumar Sahu, and Congress youth leader Kamal Charan Tandi visited Majhi’s residence to record his statement.

Following his allegations, Khariar police registered a case against contractor Hitesh Kumar and kiln owner A.R. Madhav.

Labour officials have confirmed that an investigation is underway, warning that contractors hiring without proper registration will face strict legal consequences.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross has stepped in to provide assistance to the victim.

The incident has sparked outrage across the region, highlighting the vulnerability of migrant workers and the urgent need for stronger enforcement of labour laws.

Police teams continue their probe as demands grow for swift justice and accountability.
