Nuapada Bypoll: Rs 1.2 Cr Worth of Illicit Excise Goods Seized in Major Crackdown

Nuapada/Bhubaneswar, Nov 7: With the Nuapada Assembly by-election slated for November 11, enforcement agencies have intensified their crackdown on illegal excise activities in the district.

Acting on directives from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha, the Excise Department and district administration have ramped up surveillance to curb the flow of illicit liquor and narcotics during the election period.

Since the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, authorities have seized a staggering Rs 1.2 crore worth of contraband.

The haul includes 86 litres of beer, 42 litres of foreign liquor, 6,963 litres of country liquor, 1,512 litres of outstill liquor, 60 kilograms of ganja, and a massive 1,71,300 kilograms of mahua pouches.

Additionally, eight motorcycles and one four-wheeler, allegedly used for transporting these goods, were confiscated.

According to the Superintendent of Excise, Nuapada, 242 cases have been registered and 134 individuals arrested in connection with these offences.

The CEO has instructed officials to maintain strict vigilance and ensure that no illegal excise materials are transported in the run-up to polling day.

This large-scale seizure underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring a free and fair electoral process in Nuapada.
