Nuapada By-Election: BJP Hits Back at BJD Allegations, Credits People-Centric Schemes for Victory

The political landscape in Odisha witnessed sharp exchanges after the BJP’s emphatic win in the Nuapada by-election. BJP state spokesperson Anil Biswal strongly refuted allegations from BJD leader Snehangini Chhuria, who claimed the victory was marred by EVM tampering and Election Commission bias.

Biswal accused the BJD of insulting the people’s mandate and undermining democratic institutions. He argued that the party’s third-place finish after 24 years in power reflected growing public resentment.

Drawing parallels with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s post-defeat blame tactics, Biswal warned that the BJD could face a similar decline if it continued to question constitutional bodies instead of engaging in self-introspection.

Highlighting the BJP’s success, Biswal credited people-centric schemes such as the Subhadra Yojana (financial aid for mothers), PM-KISAN benefits, and an Rs 800 input subsidy for farmers.

He emphasised that these initiatives resonated with voters and reinforced the BJP’s grassroots connect.

Biswal further criticized the BJD’s organizational weakness, noting that the party failed to field a local candidate and instead brought one from 150 kilometers away. “The people of Nuapada rejected this narrative,” he said, underscoring that the BJP’s triumph was built on governance delivery and the tireless efforts of its cadre.

The by-election result has sparked fresh debate in Odisha politics, with the BJP framing it as a turning point and the BJD grappling with questions over its long-standing dominance.
