Nuapada BDO Assaulted Amid Panchayat Building Row
Nuapada: Tension gripped the Nuapada block office after Block Development Officer (BDO) Rohit Bhoi was assaulted inside his premises on Monday.
The incident occurred following a heated dispute over the construction of the Bhaisatal Panchayat building.
According to reports, a group of youths stormed into the BDO’s office and engaged in a verbal altercation before physically attacking him.
The police swiftly intervened, arresting the prime accused while others managed to flee.
The assault has sparked outrage among block employees, who staged a dharna and launched a pen‑down strike demanding strict action against the culprits.
They also pressed for enhanced security measures to protect government officials working in sensitive areas.
The dispute stems from the ongoing construction of the Panchayat building in Baloda, which is being carried out as per a High Court directive.
However, some villagers opposed the location, leading to repeated tensions in the area.
Koraput DIG K.V. Singh confirmed the arrest and assured that further investigation is underway, with more arrests likely.
The incident underscores the growing challenges faced by administrative officers in implementing development projects amid local opposition.
