Nayagarh Dacoity: Gold Worth ₹10 Lakh Looted, Woman Assaulted
Nayagarh, Odisha: Panic gripped Balabhadrapur village under Nayagarh Sadar police limits after a gang of five armed dacoits stormed the residence of Basant Sahu late Saturday night.
The criminals looted gold ornaments worth nearly Rs 10 lakh, Rs 76,000 in cash, and a mobile phone.
According to eyewitness accounts, the gang assaulted Sahu’s wife to force her to reveal the location of valuables.
The stolen items included two gold necklaces, two gold chains, and several other ornaments.
The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who allege that repeated dacoities in Nayagarh Sadar and Town police station areas remain unsolved.
Residents criticised police for failing to crack earlier cases and accused them of prioritising ceremonial duties over investigations.
With Nayagarh increasingly perceived as a hotspot for criminal activity, traders and families expressed fear of further attacks.
Police teams, including scientific squads, have been deployed, but results remain elusive.
