Nandankanan Zoo Prepares for Record Winter Tourist Rush with Enhanced Safety Measures
Bhubaneswar: With the onset of the peak tourist season, Nandankanan Zoological Park is preparing for an unprecedented influx of visitors ahead of Christmas and New Year 2026.
Last winter, the zoo recorded a single‑day footfall of 43,000, and officials expect even higher numbers this year.
To ensure smooth crowd management and visitor safety, authorities have rolled out extensive measures.
These include additional ticket counters to reduce waiting time, expanded parking facilities, and full CCTV coverage across the zoo and botanical garden.
Police personnel and park security guards, including a special deployment of women guards, will be on duty throughout the season.
Comfort and safety remain top priorities, with more drinking water points, additional toilets, and an on‑site medical team supported by the fire brigade and volunteers during the festive period.
Entry of local villagers into the zoo premises has been restricted to avoid conflicts, with alternative routes provided outside the park.
Assistant Deputy Conservator of Forests (Tourist Management) Mansmita Maharana assured that all steps have been taken to provide a hassle‑free experience, especially for women and children.
Visitors will also be treated to several new animal species this season, adding to the excitement of the holiday rush.
