Malkangiri: Two Workers Killed in Illegal Quarry Mishap

Two workers lost their lives in a tragic accident at an illegal stone quarry near Tarini Temple in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.

The incident occurred while labourers were engaged in morrum excavation, when heavy stones suddenly collapsed on them.

The victims have been identified as Tuna Gadaba of Satyamguda village and Mitu Madhi of Champakhari village. Gadaba died instantly at the site, while Madhi, who was critically injured, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Eyewitnesses reported that the tractor driver and other workers fled the scene immediately after the accident. Local activist J. Srinivas Rao, along with villagers, rushed to rescue the trapped workers and informed the police.

Authorities later confirmed the deaths and have launched an investigation into the illegal quarrying activity.

Both victims belonged to economically disadvantaged families, leaving behind wives and young daughters.

Their sudden deaths have devastated their households, raising urgent concerns about livelihood security.

Community members and activists have demanded immediate financial assistance from the government for the bereaved families, while also calling for stricter enforcement against illegal quarry operations in the region.
