Land acquisition for development of two non-major ports underway in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Dec 4 (UNI): The land acquisition exercise for the development of two non-major ports is currently underway in Odisha, Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena told the Assembly in a written reply on Thursday.

The proposed non-major ports Subarnarekha (Balasore district) and Astaranga (Puri district) are under the jurisdiction of the state government. It has signed concession agreements with Subarnarekha Private Limited and Nabaryug Engineering Company Limited for the development of these two non-major ports, the Minister responded to a query by BJD MLA Arun Kumar Sahoo.

Similarly a concession agreement has been signed for setting up a captive jetty for the JSW Utkal Steel Limited’s proposed Integrated Steel Plant at Jhatdhari Muhan in Jagesinghpur district. The coastal state has a lone major port in Paradip under the administrative control of the ministry for ports, shipping and waterways.

Two non-major ports at Dhamara and Gopalpur are in operation and two non-major ports at Subarnarekha and Astaranga are under development. The proposed non-major ports in the state are being developed by private developers under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
