Koraput Police Bust Hidden Drug Chamber in Truck
Koraput, Odisha — September 11, 2025: In a dramatic crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Padua police in Odisha seized cannabis worth Rs 80 lakh from a secret chamber inside a speeding truck. The bust occurred near Badadebata Square in the Koraput district after authorities received a tip-off about the suspicious vehicle.
The truck, registered in Andhra Pradesh, was reportedly transporting the contraband from Muchimputt to Hyderabad. After a brief chase, police intercepted the vehicle near Sirsimala village.
Though the truck appeared empty at first glance, a strong odour of cannabis prompted a deeper inspection. Officers uncovered a hidden compartment containing 405 packets of cannabis, each weighing 2 kg, totalling 810 kg.
The driver, Govarbhan Samadhan Ingle (28), hailing from Maharashtra’s Washim district, was arrested and produced in court. Investigations revealed that Ingle and the truck’s owner, Surya, had travelled to Muchimputt to procure the cannabis. Surya later fled to Hyderabad in a private car and remains at large.
A case has been registered under Section 20(b)(ii)(c) of the NDPS Act at Padua police station. Sub-Inspector Surendra Kumar Sethi is leading the ongoing investigation, with efforts underway to apprehend Surya.
This seizure marks one of the largest cannabis hauls in the region this year, underscoring the growing need for vigilance against drug trafficking networks operating across state borders.
