Koraput Coffee Earns National Spotlight in PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat

Bhubaneswar, October 26, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 127th episode of his monthly radio address Mann Ki Baat, praised Koraput Coffee as a “source of pride for Odisha,” spotlighting its unique flavour and transformative impact on tribal livelihoods.

Grown in the lush Eastern Ghats of Koraput district, this 100% Arabica coffee has evolved from a royal legacy into a symbol of self-reliance and rural entrepreneurship.

PM Modi emphasised how the initiative has empowered tribal communities and women, with many individuals leaving corporate careers to pursue coffee farming out of passion.

“Koraput Coffee is truly delectable! This indeed is a pride of Odisha,” said the Prime Minister, noting its growing popularity among international buyers and its role in encouraging youth to return to agriculture.

Coffee cultivation in Koraput dates back to the 1930s under King Rajbahadur Rama Chandra Deo. The State Soil Conservation Department expanded the plantations in 1958, and today, government-backed entities like TDCCOL and Koraput Agro Product Producer Company Limited procure around 60 metric tonnes annually.

With branding support and market access, Koraput Coffee has carved a niche in national and global markets, reflecting India’s commitment to sustainable rural development and tribal empowerment.
