KBC Independence Day Special Featuring Operation Sindoor Officers Sparks Political Controversy
(OT Webdesk)The Independence Day special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 17 has ignited a political firestorm after featuring three serving women officers — Colonel Sofiya Qureshi (Army), Wing Commander Vyomika Singh (Air Force), and Commander Prerna Deosthalee (Navy).
These officers were part of Operation Sindoor, India’s cross-border strikes following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Set to air on August 15 and hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, the episode showcases the officers recounting their experiences during the high-stakes operation.
While departmental clearance was reportedly granted, critics have accused the government of politicising the armed forces, branding the move a “PR stunt” and “vote-milking exercise.”
Opposition leaders and social media users have raised concerns over protocol violations, questioning whether serving officers should appear on entertainment platforms in uniform.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi further alleged commercial ties between Sony Pictures Networks India and India-Pakistan cricket broadcasts, hinting at deeper political motives.
The Defence Ministry has yet to issue an official statement. Armed forces regulations typically discourage wearing uniforms in non-official entertainment contexts, adding fuel to the ongoing debate.
