Kalbaisakhi Brings Temporary Relief Across Odisha, IMD Warns of Rising Temperatures Ahead
Kalbaisakhi thunderstorms swept across several districts of Odisha on Saturday evening, bringing much‑needed respite from the scorching summer heat.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported gusty winds, heavy showers, and a sudden dip in temperatures by 2–4°C.
In Sambalpur, storm activity intensified around 8 pm, accompanied by strong winds, rain, and a dust storm that briefly disrupted normal life.
Bhubaneswar and Cuttack witnessed cloudy skies with intermittent showers, lightning, and gusty winds.
While the cooling trend has offered short‑term relief, IMD forecasts suggest temperatures may rise again by 2–3°C after 48 hours as storm activity weakens.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms, citing risks of localised heavy rainfall, lightning strikes, and strong winds.
