Jharsuguda Forester Nabbed While Accepting Rs 5,000 Bribe
Jharsuguda district witnessed a major vigilance operation as officials apprehended Sri Gouranga Sahu, Forester of Bandhbahal Section under Brajrajnagar Range, while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
According to reports, the bribe was sought from a landowner in exchange for granting permission to cut and transport dry eucalyptus trees from his property.
Acting on the landowner’s complaint, Odisha Vigilance laid a trap and caught Sahu red‑handed inside the office campus.
Sources confirmed that the accused attempted to flee upon spotting the Vigilance team but was swiftly detained. The entire bribe amount was recovered from his possession and seized as evidence.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were conducted at two of Sahu’s premises to investigate disproportionate assets. The Rourkela Vigilance Police Station registered Case No. 13 dated 04.12.2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The investigation is currently underway, marking another strong step by Odisha Vigilance in its crackdown on corruption within government offices.
