Jajpur Clerk Sentenced to 4 Years RI for Bribery in Drug License Case

In a decisive blow against corruption, the Special Judge (Vigilance), Bhubaneswar, has sentenced Sarat Kumar Rout, former Junior Clerk at the Drugs Inspector’s office in Jajpur Road, to four years of rigorous imprisonment and a monetary fine.

Rout was found guilty of demanding and accepting a Rs 6,000 bribe from a complainant in exchange for issuing a drug license.

The conviction follows a detailed investigation by Odisha Vigilance, which filed the charge sheet under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Rout had already been dismissed from service prior to the sentencing.

Officials emphasised that the verdict reinforces the state’s commitment to transparency and accountability in public administration. Rout was taken into immediate custody to serve his sentence.

This case marks another milestone in Odisha Vigilance’s ongoing crackdown on bribery and misuse of public office, sending a strong message to government employees across the state.
