Odisha Vigilance DA case

Jajpur ASI Caught Red-Handed in Bribery Case

In a dramatic anti-corruption operation, Odisha Vigilance officers apprehended Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Nanda Kishore Das of Jajpur Town Police Station while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a local betel shop owner.

The shopkeeper, embroiled in a land dispute, had earlier approached the Orissa High Court for the demarcation of his property.

Although the court ruled in his favour and the revenue authorities marked the land boundaries, his neighbour allegedly demolished the newly constructed wall.

When the complainant sought police help, ASI Das demanded Rs 10,000 to “assist” in the case, later reducing the demand to Rs 5,000.

Unable to pay, the victim reported the matter to Odisha Vigilance. Acting swiftly, the anti-corruption team laid a trap and caught the officer red-handed.

The bribe money was recovered from his possession, and simultaneous house searches are underway at three locations linked to him for suspected disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, and investigation is ongoing.

The incident underscores Odisha Vigilance’s continued crackdown on corruption within law enforcement.
