Inter-State Vehicle Racket Exposed: No Arrests Despite Evidence in Bhubaneswar Case
Bhubaneswar, February 12, 2026 — The Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police is facing mounting criticism over alleged delays and inaction in investigating a vehicle theft case involving fraudulent registration certificates (RCs).
he case, registered as Sahid Nagar P.S. Case No. 25/2026, involves the theft of three vehicles: a Hyundai Grand i10, a Hyundai Verna, and a Tata Ace. According to the complainant, the stolen vehicles were sold and re-registered using forged documentation, pointing to the possible involvement of an organized inter-state criminal network.
Evidence reportedly indicates that the vehicles were located operating in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
An enquiry report by the then Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar Urban Police District (UPD), confirmed these findings. Despite this, no vehicles have been recovered and no arrests have been made, the owner alleges.
he vehicle owner escalated the matter on January 27, 2026, by approaching senior officials, including the Commissioner of Police (Bhubaneswar-Cuttack) and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bhubaneswar UPD).
With no significant progress reported, a formal grievance was filed with the Chief Minister’s Office on February 9, 2026 (Reference: 20260209-CMO-0354).
The complainant has expressed concerns that the continued inaction not only prevents recovery of the stolen property but also risks the vehicles being misused for illegal activities.
The owner has called for immediate intervention by the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha, and the formation of a specialized investigation team under the Additional DCP to probe the fraudulent RC usage and inter-state movement.
s of now, the Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police has not issued an official response to the allegations
