Srinagar, May 23,( OT Webdesk) – Passengers on board an IndiGo flight to Srinagar endured moments of terror as the aircraft was caught in a violent hailstorm on Wednesday.
The pilot attempted to seek permission from Lahore Air Traffic Control to enter Pakistan’s airspace momentarily for safety but was denied access, intensifying the turbulence.
The flight, carrying over 220 passengers, including a five-member delegation of Trinamool Congress MPs, faced extreme weather conditions but managed to land safely in Srinagar.
Videos circulating on social media show passengers praying as the aircraft shook violently.
Trinamool MP and journalist Sagarika Ghose, who was onboard, described the experience as a “near-death” moment, commending the pilot’s skilful handling of the situation.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation into the incident. IndiGo Airlines assured passengers that the affected aircraft will undergo thorough maintenance before returning to service.
