Bhubaneswar, Dec 9: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a significant drop in night temperatures across Odisha, predicting a decrease of 3 to 5 degrees Celsius over the next three days.
Additionally, the IMD has indicated that light rain may occur in isolated areas, including Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Sundargarh, Deogarh, and Sambalpur districts. This precipitation is attributed to moisture incursion linked to a low-pressure area developing over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjacent east Equatorial Indian Ocean.
The low-pressure system is expected to move west-northwestward, becoming more prominent within the next 24 hours. It is likely to reach the southwest Bay of Bengal, near the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts, by December 11. However, the IMD has noted that after December 10, no further rain is anticipated in Odisha, with dry weather prevailing thereafter.
Meanwhile, Delhi and its neighboring regions are predicted to experience cold wave-like conditions, with a temperature drop of around six degrees Celsius this week. Cold wave conditions may also affect isolated areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh until December 13.
IMD forecasts drop in night temperatures by 3-5°C in Odisha
