IG confirms MLA’s PSO responsible for brother’s death and own suicide
Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), Aug 8: In a shocking update on the mysterious deaths of BJD MLA Niranjan Pujari’s Personal Security Officer (PSO) Manoj Jhankar and his cousin, Northern Range IG Himansu Lal has revealed that the police officer was responsible for both deaths before taking his own life.
The investigation, which involved collecting scientific evidence and interviewing over 15 eyewitnesses, has ruled out any past enmity as a motive behind the deaths. Lal disclosed that Manoj Jhankar was found to be inebriated on the day of the incident.
According to Lal, Manoj first fired a blank shot before fatally shooting his brother, Seshadev Jhankar, with a police service pistol. Afterward, Manoj took his own life using the same weapon. The postmortem reports are expected later this evening to provide further details.
Previously, the Binika Police had detained two individuals from Chulimala village in connection with the case. The bodies of Manoj, a police constable assigned as a PSO, and Seshadev, were discovered with bullet wounds to their heads in an open field in the Chulimalagaon area.
