Highway Horror on NH–520: Truck Driver Stabbed and Looted Near Bhadrasahi
Barbil: Keonjhar district of Odisha witnessed yet another chilling incident of highway crime, as miscreants struck on NH–520 near Roida Chowk under Barbil police station limits.
In the early hours of Sunday, three unidentified assailants stopped a truck and brutally attacked its driver with sharp weapons before fleeing with valuables.
According to reports, the truck was transporting iron ore from Kashia mines to a pellet plant in Devjhar when the criminals intercepted it.
On resisting the robbery attempt, the driver was assaulted with knives, sustaining severe injuries to his head and hands.
The injured driver has been identified as Satyanarayan Vishwakarma, a resident of Madhya Pradesh. He was rushed to Barbil Medical in critical condition, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Police teams from Barbil station reached the spot soon after the incident and have launched an investigation.
Meanwhile, locals expressed grave concern over the rising menace of highway robbers along NH–520, stating that transporters and truck drivers increasingly feel unsafe on this route.
The incident has sparked widespread fear in the region, with demands for stronger police patrolling and an immediate crackdown on organised highway gangs.
