Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), June 1: A booth-level officer died of a suspected heart attack while on election duty at Oleichandanpur booth number 157 in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Manonranjan Sahu, was the headmaster of a primary school.
Sources reported that Sahu complained of uneasiness and was immediately rushed to the community health center in Binjharpur, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. It is suspected that he suffered a stroke due to excessive heat and humidity.
On Friday, at least 10 polling officials were hospitalized after falling ill due to intense heatwave conditions in the district during EVM distribution.
Additionally, 25 polling staff on Lok Sabha duty died of suspected heatstroke in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, with 15 of these cases reported in Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Raj Bahadur Kamal, Principal of Mirzapur’s Maa Vindhyavasini Autonomous State Medical College, told PTI that 13 poll staff died at the hospital following high fever and high blood pressure.
The deceased included seven home guard jawans, three sanitation workers, one clerk from the Chief Medical Officer’s office, one consolidation officer, and one peon in the home guard team.
