Fresh Low-Pressure System to Bring Heavy Rainfall in Odisha After September 9

Odisha is set to witness a fresh spell of heavy rainfall as meteorologists predict the formation of a new low-pressure system over the East-Central Bay of Bengal between September 10–12.

The system is expected to intensify into a depression by September 15, triggering widespread showers across northern Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand.

Currently, the state is experiencing a brief lull in rainfall activity, with no active local weather systems until September 8.

However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh districts on September 9–10, cautioning residents of localised heavy downpours.

This monsoon season has already seen eight low-pressure systems since June 1, resulting in rainfall levels 25% above average.

Local administrations remain on alert for potential flooding risks in vulnerable districts.
