Patna, July 17 (UNI) In a move that is apparently aimed at wooing voters before the next Bihar assembly elections to be held in October-November this year, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced that his government will provide free electricity of 125 units to 1.67 crore families,
Kumar made the announcement in a post made on his social media account ‘X’, saying that his state government had decided to give free electricity of 125 units to 1.67 crore families in Bihar with effect from August 1, 2025.
This means that consumers would get the benefit of this on their bills in July.
“All households will be installed with solar power units within the next three years with the consent of owners “, the Chief Minister said, adding that power of 10,000 MW would be available for consumers in Bihar in the next three years.
State government would provide a subsidy to consumers for the installation of solar power units at the rooftops of their houses or at any other public places, at their convenience,” he further added.
“Poor families and those engaged in cottage industries would be given a hundred per cent subsidy for installation of solar power units”, Kumar said. Initiatives taken by the state government would provide financial relief to people of Bihar, he stated.
Earlier, the Nitish Kumar government had announced a hike in old age pension from Rs 400 to Rs 1100 per month, besides giving 35 per cent reservation benefits in government services, only to those women who are natives of Bihar.
