Former Union Minister Kanhu Charan Lenka Passes Away at 87

Bhubaneswar: Veteran politician and former Union Minister Kanhu Charan Lenka passed away on Thursday morning at a private hospital. He was 87.

Lenka began his public life under the mentorship of noted Odia journalist and reformer Pradyumna Bal. He went on to serve as MLA from Choudwar constituency and later became the Industry Minister in Odisha.

His political journey extended to the national stage, where he represented Odisha in the Rajya Sabha and contributed to policy debates.

At the Union level, Lenka held the position of Minister of State for Railways, where he focused on infrastructure and connectivity.

Known for his administrative acumen and grassroots engagement, he was widely respected across party lines.

His passing marks the end of an era in Odisha politics. Leaders, colleagues, and well‑wishers have expressed condolences, remembering him as a mentor to younger leaders and a dedicated public servant.
