Pune, July 17 (UNI) In a significant political development in Pune district, former Purandar MLA and long-time Pune district Congress President Sanjay Jagtap has officially joined the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Jagtap hails from an influential political family in Purandar and has been a staunch supporter of Congress for years. In 2016, he was appointed president of the Pune District Congress Committee.
Just two days before formally joining the BJP, he resigned from both his position and primary membership of the Congress party.
Despite his family’s longstanding association with the Congress, Jagtap stated that changing political circumstances compelled him to switch to the BJP.
Senior Congress leader and spokesperson Anant Gadgil expressed concern over the move, calling it alarming.
He highlighted the growing trend of loyal leaders and workers leaving the party, and stressed the importance of ideological commitment over political survival.
