Former Odisha Deputy Speaker Bibhuti Bhusan Singh Mardaraj passes away at 70
Bhubaneswar, Aug 7 (UNI) Former Deputy Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Bibhuti Bhusan Singh Mardaraj, passed away at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 70.
A member of the royal family of Khandapara Mardaraj was elected to the Odisha Assembly three times, first as an Independent candidate from 1980 to 1985, and later as an Indian National Congress candidate from 1985 to 1990 and again from 1995 to 2000.
He served as Minister of State for Tourism, Culture, and Planning & Coordination from 1989 to 1990.
Mardaraj later held the post of Deputy Speaker of the Odisha Assembly from 1996 to 2000.
Leaders across party lines have expressed profound grief over his demise and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, and other members of the Council of Ministers mourned the loss of the veteran leader.
In a post on social media platform X , the Chief Minister said,”I am deeply saddened to learn about the demise of Shri Bibhuti Bhushan Singh Mardaraj, former Minister in the government and former Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
“I pray to Lord Jagannath for the eternal peace of his soul and express my condolences to the family. Om Shanti.”,Majhi tweeted.
