Former Minister Raghunandan Das granted anticipatory bail in dog incident case

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 19: On Friday, the Orissa High Court granted anticipatory bail to former Minister Raghunandan Das in a case involving accusations made by a woman journalist. The journalist alleges that Das unleashed dogs on her last month. The court has directed Das to appear before the lower court to formalize his anticipatory bail.
Das, who previously served as the Minister of Information and Public Relations in the BJD government, sought relief from the High Court following the initiation of a police investigation into the matter.
The Twin City Commissionerate Police had registered a case against Das under several sections of the IPC, including 354 (assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (utterance of obscene words), and 506 (criminal intimidation), based on the journalist’s complaint.
Chinmayee Sahoo, a journalist for a TV channel, accused Das of releasing his dogs on her when she entered his official residence with permission to capture footage of the demolition of unauthorized construction on a neighboring property owned by BJD organizational secretary Pranab Prakash Das.
