Fake Police Caught Attempting Fertiliser Truck Robbery in Nabarangpur
Nabarangpur district witnessed a shocking incident on Sunday night when three men disguised as police officers attempted to rob a fertiliser-laden truck.
Around 10 p.m., driver Durga Prasad Jena was en route from Tumbarla in Papadahandi towards Umerkote when the attackers intercepted his vehicle near Sindhiguda village.
The men, posing as police, demanded documents before forcing the driver to a nearby ground. They assaulted him with chains and sticks, ignoring his pleas for mercy.
Fortunately, a patrolling vehicle from Maidalpur police station arrived at the scene. Officers intervened immediately after learning of the situation.
Two accused — Tulasi Harijan and Nimanata Pangi — were arrested from Gadabakatara Panchayat, while the third, Prabhas Besra, managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
Police seized the weapons used in the attack and registered Case No. 117/25 under relevant sections. The arrested men were produced in court and remanded to custody.
Authorities have assured strict action and urged citizens to remain vigilant against such crimes. The incident has left locals stunned, as the attackers exploited the trust associated with police uniforms to carry out their plan.
