Ex-Sambalpur MLA and Renowned Doctor Raseswari Panigrahi Passes Away
Sambalpur, Odisha – Former Sambalpur MLA and senior BJD leader Dr Raseswari Panigrahi passed away at her residence on February 16, 2026, at the age of 79.
She had been battling neurological complications for the past three years. Her condition worsened on Sunday evening, and she breathed her last at 8:50 pm.
Dr Panigrahi, a renowned gynaecologist before entering politics, was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Sambalpur in 2014 on a BJD ticket.
She began her medical career after graduating from VIMSAR, Burla, in 1972 and later served as a professor at a government medical college.
Known for her compassionate service, she often treated underprivileged patients free of cost and earned respect across Western Odisha.
Her dual legacy as a medical professional and political leader has left a lasting impact on the region.
Leaders, colleagues, and citizens have paid tribute, remembering her dedication to public service and her humane approach to healthcare.
Her passing marks the end of an era for Sambalpur and Odisha’s political and medical fraternity.
