Elderly voter collapses and dies in queue at Balasore polling booth

Four Die of Asphyxiation

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), June 1: During the fourth and final phase of polling in Odisha’s Balasore district, an elderly man passed away while waiting in line to cast his vote at booth No. 159 in Ishwarpur, Nilagiri.

The 77-year-old man collapsed suddenly while standing in the queue to exercise his franchise.
Polling staff at the booth promptly assisted in rushing the man to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Although the exact cause of his death is yet to be determined, it is suspected to be related to the intense heat and high humidity prevalent at the time.

This incident follows a series of deaths due to suspected sunstroke in various districts of western Odisha over the past two days. Additionally, amidst a severe heatwave affecting several parts of the country, six security personnel on election duty reportedly succumbed to extreme heat in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh.
