Elderly Man Killed in Puri Road Accident, Locals Stage Protest
Puri: A tragic road accident on the Satashankha–Nimapada main road claimed the life of a 55-year-old man late Thursday night.
Eyewitnesses reported that the victim died instantly after being struck by a speeding vehicle. His identity has not yet been confirmed.
The incident sparked outrage among local residents, who gathered at Nuahat and staged a road blockade. The protest disrupted traffic for hours, causing long delays and congestion across the area.
Police rushed to the spot to restore order and assured residents that an investigation had been launched to trace the driver responsible.
Authorities emphasised that measures are being taken to improve safety and prevent similar tragedies.
Residents, however, voiced frustration over recurring road safety issues in Odisha, blaming poor enforcement of traffic rules and reckless driving for the rising number of accidents.
They demanded strict action against the accused driver and stronger accountability from traffic authorities.
This incident adds to growing concerns about road safety in the state, where locals continue to call for urgent reforms and stricter enforcement to protect lives.
