Deogarh Forest Personnel Rescue Three Elephants from Open Well in 50 Minutes
Deogarh, Odisha: In a remarkable display of swift action and coordination, forest officials in Deogarh district successfully rescued three elephants that had fallen into an open well in Tinkbir (Baranali) village on Monday evening.
The incident occurred when a herd of 18 elephants was passing through the area. At around 4:15 PM, villagers noticed three elephants trapped in the well and immediately alerted the forest department.
Responding without delay, the Range Officer, Deputy Range Officer, and local forest guards rushed to the site.
A JCB machine was deployed to construct a ramp alongside the well, enabling the elephants to climb out. By 5:10 PM—within just 50 minutes of the alert—the elephants had safely emerged and rejoined their herd.
No injuries were reported among the animals or the rescue team.
This successful operation highlights the preparedness and efficiency of Odisha’s forest personnel in handling human-elephant conflict situations.
It also underscores the importance of community vigilance and timely intervention in safeguarding wildlife.
