Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 6: Dengue outbreak grips Saintala town in Balangir district of Odisha, with reports emerging on Saturday of 18 confirmed cases following a recent fatality. Eleven of the infected have been admitted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College in Balangir due to severe symptoms.
In response to the sudden surge, a state-level team will investigate the spike in cases, led by Director of Public Health Dr. Nilakantho Mishra. Medical teams from Bhima Bhoi Medical College have been actively monitoring hospitals and transferring diagnosed patients for specialized care.
Statewide, 350 cases of dengue have been reported this year, marking a significant increase compared to last year. Urban areas like Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are particularly affected, prompting heightened vigilance and establishment of dedicated dengue wards in district hospitals.
Health officials have issued directives to all Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) to intensify treatment protocols and ensure availability of essential supplies like platelets across all districts in anticipation of further cases.
