Bhubaneswar, Oct 26 — As Cyclone Montha edges closer to Odisha’s eastern coast, the state government has activated emergency protocols by cancelling leave for government employees across seven vulnerable districts. The move aims to ensure uninterrupted disaster response and public service continuity.
Districts Under Leave Suspension
Officials in Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Balasore, and Kendrapara have been directed to remain at their headquarters and report for duty without exception. Specific timelines vary:
- Ganjam: Oct 25–30
- Malkangiri & Koraput: Oct 27–30
- Kalahandi & Gajapati: Oct 27–31
- Balasore & Kendrapara: Immediate effect until further notice
This proactive measure ensures sufficient manpower for relief, rescue, and rehabilitation operations.
IMD Issues Red and Orange Alerts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam on Oct 28, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall. Orange alerts are in place for Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khordha, and Puri.
On Oct 29, red alerts will continue for Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Rayagada, while Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, Nuapada, and Balangir will remain under orange alert.
