Cuttack Student Hospitalised After Punishment of 100 Sit-Ups
A Class IX student of Chintamani Government School in Kishannagar, Cuttack, was hospitalised after being forced to perform 100 sit-ups as punishment for missing classes.
The boy developed swollen knees, severe pain, and blisters later that night. Despite home remedies, his condition worsened, prompting his family to seek medical care.
Initially admitted to a private hospital, he was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where doctors diagnosed a rare condition triggered by excessive physical strain.
Reports suggest five to six other students were also subjected to the same punishment.
The boy’s father lodged a complaint with the school headmistress, but he alleged that the matter was not taken seriously. The teacher visited the student’s home but did not take further action.
Parents of other affected students have also raised objections.
Police have confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway.
