Cuttack–Paradeep section commissioned with automatic signalling
Bhubaneswar, Aug 22 (UNI) The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has successfully commissioned a state-of-the-art Automatic Signalling System on the Cuttack–Paradeep section (83 km) of the Talcher–Paradeep Freight Corridor under Khurda Road Division.
This development marks a major milestone in the modernization of railway operations on the crucial route connecting Paradeep Port.
According to ECoR sources, the new signalling system will significantly enhance capacity and ensure faster train movement. Reduced headway between trains will allow more services within less time, ensuring smoother and more efficient operations.
Automatic operations will also reduce human dependency, minimize errors, and strengthen both passenger and freight safety. Real-time monitoring and automatic controls will improve punctuality, asset utilization, and service reliability.
The system is expected to facilitate faster freight movement towards Paradeep Port, thereby boosting industrial growth and contributing to regional economic development.
Key features of the new system include, dual multi-section digital axle counters for precise train detection, integrated power supply to ensure uninterrupted operations,LED signal lamps for visibility in all weather conditions, Data loggers for comprehensive event monitoring and Video Display Units at all stations for real-time train supervision
Additionally, 19 level crossing gates have been interlocked with the new signalling system, eliminating non-interlocked gates and reducing potential hazards.
The section has also been divided into multiple UP and DOWN subsections, enabling smoother traffic handling and greater line capacity.
With these upgrades, the Cuttack–Paradeep section is now safer, faster, and more reliable, ready to handle increasing passenger and freight demand with modern technology, ECoR sources added.
