CUO students demonstrate Kharif Potato cultivation techniques to Koraput Farmers
Bhubaneswar, Aug 4 (UNI) In an effort to engage with the farming community of Koraput, students from the Department of Agriculture, Central University of Odisha (CUO), demonstrated the cultivation techniques of Kharif (summer) potato and interacted with local farmers.
This initiative is part of the department’s ongoing outreach programme aimed at bridging academic knowledge with grassroots agricultural practices.
The students visited the field of farmer Bisu Bairagi in Paliba village, Lamtaput block, Koraput district, to conduct the demonstration.
By working directly with local farmers, the department seeks to understand cultivation challenges, assess soil texture and fertility, and offer practical, research-based solutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Manjushree Singh, Head of the Department of Agriculture, emphasised, “There is a continuous effort by the Ministry of Education to uplift farming communities by transferring knowledge and technology from lab to land. At CUO, we are committed to carrying this vision forward through our researchers, educators, and students.”
The university also plans to undertake several future research initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainability in the region.
These efforts are intended to empower farmers with improved techniques and tools adapted to Koraput’s unique agro-climatic conditions.
CUO Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.C. Panda extended his gratitude to progressive farmers for their active support and collaboration with the Department of Agriculture.
He stated that their involvement is crucial in building a strong linkage between academia and the farming community.
This collaborative approach marks a promising path toward inclusive agricultural development in the Koraput region, he stated.
