Cold Wave to Grip Odisha from Christmas, IMD Issues Advisory
Odisha is bracing for a sharp dip in temperatures as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a cold wave across the state beginning December 25.
Following the exit of a western disturbance, the inflow of dry, cold northwesterly winds is expected to intensify the chill, particularly in southern and western districts.
In the past 24 hours, Koraput recorded the lowest temperature at 6.3°C, followed by Daringbadi at 7°C, Nabarangpur at 8°C, Phulbani at 8.5°C, Jharsuguda at 9.4°C, and Boudh at 9.5°C.
The IMD has indicated minimal changes in temperature over the coming week, signalling prolonged cold conditions.
Adding to the winter woes, light to moderate fog is likely to persist across Odisha for the next five days, potentially affecting visibility and travel.
Authorities have urged citizens to take precautions, including dressing warmly, using heating devices safely, and staying updated with weather bulletins.
