CM Majhi to Grace Rare Idol Ceremony in Sonepur
Sonepur is set to witness a historic spiritual and cultural moment on February 1, 2026, as Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi embarks on a significant visit to the district.
The highlight of the day will be the ceremonial enthronement of twelve rare Gopalji idols at the Gopalji temple.
These idols, stolen 42 years ago and later recovered by the CBI in 1993, have finally been restored to their rightful place.
Rituals began on January 25, and the grand ceremony will culminate with the Chief Minister seeking blessings during the installation.
Majhi’s itinerary also includes participation in the sacred Maghamela at Khaliapali, where he will pay homage at the revered Bhima Bhoi Samadhi Peeth.
His program features darshan at the Paduka Mandir and Bhima Bhoi’s Samadhi, along with the inauguration of a massive temple bell weighing over two quintals.
District Collector Nriparaj Sahu, Samadhi Peeth Trust leaders, and senior police officials have already inspected arrangements and reviewed security measures to ensure smooth proceedings.
The twin events are being hailed as a historic occasion for Sonepur, blending cultural heritage, spiritual devotion, and community pride.
